Camtasia screen recording software is able to render both open captions (captions that always appear in a video) and closed captions (captions that can be turned on and off, depending on video player). If the video player does not show closed captions, change the settings in Camtasia and produce the video with open captions.
Once you have uploaded and formatted your captions, follow the steps to change the caption settings to export open or burned in captions in Camtasia.
Step 1. Select the Share button.
Choose Custom Production followed by New Custom Production. The Production Wizard dialogue box will appear.
Step 2. Select the file type for the video.
We suggest .mp4 for the file type. Select "next".
Step 3. Select the “Options” tab.
Step 4. Make sure the box next to Captions is checked.
In the drop down box to the right of “Caption Type” choose “Burned in Captions” (aka open captions). Remember closed captions are only able to be shown on select players, not all video players will show closed captions. To make sure the captions are always on, select “Burned in captions.”
Step 5. Select "Next" for the next two dialogue boxes.
